2019 National Championships
Published Fri 03 May 2019
35 sailors from WA, Queensland, NSW, Victoria, SA and Tasmania including four from Japan competed in the 2019 Combined Australian Hansa Class Championships incorporating 2019 WA Hansa Class Championships on 19th – 22nd April at Koombana Bay Sailing Club, Bunbury WA.
The practice race on Friday had to be cancelled, with 30knots of wind and hail no one was going anywhere. Saturday’s racing was in light to very light winds; 2.3 and 303single in the morning and 303doubles and Liberty in the afternoon; three races each on the trapezoidal course. Sunday bought a steady breeze and each division was able to complete three races even with a change of start line because the wind shifted. Monday bought very light oily conditions; two races each and the Nationals were over for another year.
Many thanks to Ian Anderson and his team of volunteers, RO Terry Peek and the wonderful volunteers from Koombana Bay Rotary Sail in to Life for a very successful championship regatta.
Final results were;
2.3 Koji Harada from Japan
303 singles Chris Symonds from Tasmania
303 doubles Chris Symonds and Michael Symonds from WA
Liberty Bob Schahinger from SA
Victoria won the State Team Trophy; the Hans Hill Volunteer Award was given to Tracy Odiam and Chris Riordan, a past President presented the President’s Trophy to Chris Symonds.
2020 Nationals will be held on 9th – 13th April at Canberra Yacht Club.
